Paula:

Here is a list of the basic info that should be included in any grant application.

- The grantseeker's 501(c)(3) Internal Revenue Service tax exemption letter - A budget for the proposed project and for the organization as a whole - A list of major corporate, foundation and private supporters with amounts for the proposed project and the organization - A list of the organization's governors, trustees or directors - The organization's most recent audited financial statement

The proposal letter should be 2 - 5 pages in length including the following info:

What is the mission of your organization? What is the history and what are the current activities of the organization? What are the goals and timelines for implementing the program? How does the the program relate to the goals of the Foundation? What are the objectives for the program and are they measurable? What are the specific activities to be carried out to meet the objectives? What are the groups and neighborhoods to be served and how will they benefit from the program? How does the organization plan to measure and evaluate short-term and long-term program results?

Each foundation or grantmaker has slightly different guidelines. I will look at the guidelines of the Independence Bank Foundation and Ben and Jerry's Foundation to get a better handle on this. Meanwhile, this should give you enough to start with.

Take care, Les
