Welcome to the Empty Vessel Project Wiki!

end?

About

The Empty Vessel Project was formed after the discovery of a derelict World War II Navy Rescue boat. We saved her from demolition in the Bronx and brought her to Brooklyn's Gowanus Canal. She became an Action, Art and Design Center fostering projects focused on Sustainable Living in Urban Landscapes, and a public access point to the Canal for the surrounding neighborhood. You can read about our past and future projects on this wiki.

After a long and prosperous quest to find our beloved boat new owners - in which our crew risked much, voyaging to the furthest ends of the plain of ideas - we have found a project worthy of the good ship 'Kokkomokko' aka EV, aka Old Woodeye. We have given the boat over to a charming group of kids who share our fervor for bilgewater and public service. You can read about them here. A chapter in our forthcoming book will compile some of the better ideas we received from friends and strangers (and some stranger-ers). The original post is below:

"Wooden Naval Vessel with a History ::: $1,000. or really good intentions We have a 63 foot wooden boat on the Gowanus Canal. She has been a not-for-profit performance space for the last year and a half. Now she's up for grabs to the person with the best offer or idea. The hull is in great shape. Negligable leaks. The boat has no engine or steering mechanism. The main cabin is an insulated 12'x42'x6' space that could make for a cozy meeting room or studio or blackbox theatre [...] We can introduce you to our landlord or help you make arrangements to move her somewhere of your choosing. No ridiculous offer or pipe dream turned away. Preference goes to ideas that incorporate public access, even infrequently..."

This Wiki is designed to keep tabs on all of our various EV related projects. If you've never used a Wiki before, please read/explore and experiment.
